📍 New week, new post! Today's topic is about Database Platforms. We are all familiar with its use and purpose, but for today's discussion let's elaborate some important details about this Database. 🤗 ‼ Because of unstable network, I wasn't bale to upload here the vlog and the ppt presentation I've prepare for this topic. Soon, I'll be updating this page and the whole website once the internet connection got stable. Thank you! 🤗 Don't forget to know first the definition of Database. DATABASE
💡 A database schema represents the logical configuration of all or part of a relational database. 📍Let us discuss a Database example: An online telephone directory uses a database to store information of individuals, phone numbers, and other contact details. So basically, databases are like modern log book for all transactions and information in a certain process or services. DATABASE SYSTEM ENVIRONMENT📌A DBMS package typically uses SQL queries to interact with a database. It takes a command from a database administrator (DBA) and directs the system to take the appropriate action. These instructions could be for loading, retrieving, or changing data already in the system. 📌 The term DATABASE SYSTEM refers to an organization of components that define and regulate the collection, storage, management, and use of data within a database environment. These are:
WHAT IS STRUCTURED QUERY LANGUAGE (SQL)? 💡 SQL stands for Structured Query Language (pronounced "ess-que-el"). 📌 SQL is a programming language used by nearly all relational databases to query, manipulate, and define data, and to provide access control. 📌SQL was first developed at IBM in the 1970s with Oracle as a major contributor, which led to implementation of the SQL ANSI standard, SQL has spurred many extensions from companies such as IBM, Oracle, and Microsoft. PURPOSE OF DATABASE📌 SIMPLIFIED DATA SHARING - One of the main advantages of DBMS is that it allows users (onsite as well as remote) to easily share the data by following the correct authorization protocols. 📌 ENHANCED DATA SAFETY - database management software offers better implementation of data confidentiality and safety guidelines through controlled user access. 📌 IMPROVED DATA INTEGRATION - A DBMS stimulates an integrated view of the company’s data. 📌 BETTER DECISION-MAKING - It offers a streamlined framework to enable data quality initiatives, improving data management procedures and yielding better-quality information. 📌 IMPROVED EFFICIENCY - Streamlined data access software, along with the tools that convert data into valuable information, enable operators to make swift, knowledgeable decisions. TYPES OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMSHIERARCHICAL📌 Since its data is a representation of a tree, the Hierarchical database looks to be a tree structure. The model is downward, with leaves sprouting from branches. The child is represented by the leaves, while the parents are represented by the branches. Within the hierarchy model, both the child and the parent are data entities. Each is recorded and connected; therefore, this database will look like a tree like structure.
NETWORK📌 The network model is a database model designed to represent objects and their relationships in a scalable way. Its distinctive feature is that the schema is not limited to being a hierarchy or lattice when presented as a graph in which object types are nodes and relationship types are arcs.
📍 This is an extension of the Hierarchical model. In this model data is organized more like a graph, and are allowed to have more than one parent node. RELATIONAL📌E.F Codd developed this model in1970, and it has remained the most commonly used database model, if not the only database model, in the world since then. The basic structure of data in the relational model is tables. All the information related to a particular type is stored in rows of that table. Hence, tables are also known as relations in relational model.
📍 In this model, data is organized in two-dimensional tables and the relationship is maintained by storing a common field. OBJECT-ORIENTED📌A database is defined as a collection of objects in the object-oriented model, which stores both values and operations/methods. Classes are groups of objects with identical values and operations.
📍 As this type of database integrates with object-oriented programming languages and utilizes an identical representation model, programmers can leverage the uniformity of a single programming environment. All the entities and values are then stored in the databases. DATABASE PLATFORMSThe challenge of handling and using data is constantly growing as more data becomes accessible to businesses. To help business applications now and in the future, organizations must ensure that their database systems are reliable and scalable. Many companies and organizations offer help with this kind of situation and here are some of these databases platforms; MySQL💡 MySQL was created by MySQL AB in Sweden and was acquired by Sun Microsystems in2008, and then by Oracle when it bought Sun in 2010.
🔎 HOW MySQL WORKS? MySQL uses a client-server architecture. MySQL's main component is the MySQL server, which manages all database instructions (or commands). The MySQL server is available as a standalone program for use in a client-server networked environment, as well as a library that can be embedded (or linked) into other programs. ORACLE DATABASE💡In 1977, Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates started the consultancy Software Development Laboratories, which became Relational Software, Inc. (RSI). In 1983, RSI became Oracle Systems Corporation and then later Oracle Corporation.
🔎HOW ORACLE DATBASE WORKS? An Oracle database server uses memory structures and processes to manage and access the database. All memory structures exist in the main memory of the computers that constitute the database system. Processes are jobs that work in the memory of these computers. GOOGLE CLOUD SQL
Benefits of Google Cloud SQL: 📌LESS MAINTENANCE COST - You won't have to think about keeping the application data up to date if it's labeled as fully-managed. This allows you to concentrate on developing your cloud applications and framing tactics that will give you a competitive advantage. 📌ENSURE BUSINESS CONTINUITY - Cloud SQL ensures data backup and recovery. In the event of a catastrophe, you can rapidly restore application data and restart operations without interruption. 📌 ENSURES SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE - Cloud SQL provides data encryption and firewall protection. It's a secure RDBMS service that focuses on providing private connectivity through authentication and network access managed by the user. 📌 EASY SET-UP - Google’s easy-to-use SQL service provides a hassle-free first-time experience. You can set up your first Google database app in minutes using regular link drivers and migration software. 📌AUTOMATED TASK - Cloud SQL supports automatic task management to ensure you can focus on scaling your business on the go. Storage management, backup and redundancy management, updates, power management, and data access are all available via the Google service. 📌EASY INTEGRATION - Google provides easy access to cloud SQL instances and ensures easy integration with Kubernetes Engine, App Engine, and Compute Engine. 🔎 HOW ORACLE DATABASE WORKS? Cloud SQL provides data encryption and firewall protection. It is a secure RDBMS service that focuses on providing private connectivity through authentication and user-controlled network access. Google service is compliant with SSAE 16, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, and HIPAA. 🔎 Refences:
